SUPER SESSION CELEBRATES JOHN’S CAREER IN MAGIC

John Moehring, at one time known as “The Texan Trixter,” a moniker bestowed on him in 1960 by Dai Vernon, was the Guest of Honor at the 2014 Dallas Super Session on March 22nd. The afternoon flew by as attendees at the invitational one-day convention took part in the traditional round-robin of close-up magic. (Every one registered must perform a trick.) After dinner at a nearby barbecue joint, it was back to the hotel for the feature presentation,. A screening of John’s audiovisual scrapbook titled “IT WAS ALL ABOUT TESS” drew a prolonged standing ovation. A surprise reel of tribute and congratulatory videos submitted by some of John’s friends who couldn’t be there provided the perfect capper for the evening.

"Meticulously researched and beautifully written, this tribute to 'America’s Foremost,' Del Ray, firmly establishes John Moehring as 'America’s Foremost' biographer of 20th-century magicians.
"The section by Gary Plants on some of Del Ray’s close-up pieces elucidates such reputation makers as his Blackjack Deal (which fooled Marlo on repeated viewings) and his handling of Hamman’s Final Aces routine.
"The accompanying DVD with Del Ray performing these feats, as well as his unique stage act, is a joy to watch."
